Younger readers would be those who are just learning to read or starting out with chapter books. This is one of my least favorite phases of book, so many are cheesy,  but there are some good ones. So, here is a list of what we have enjoyed at this stage:

Beginning Reader:
  • Arthur books by Hoban
  • Frog and Toad books
  • Dr. Seuss books
  • Amelia Bedelia (not good for kids who are painfully literal and get frustrated with things being not right. Bad for kids with Asperger's, funny for other kids)
  • Mercer Mayer books
  • Little Bill I can read books
  • Little Bear books by Maurice Sendak
  • Box car children learn to read books Gertrude Chandler Warner
  • Inspector Hopper I can read books by Doug Cushman
  • American Girls beginning reader chapter books
Beginning Chapter Books:
  • Hank The Cow Dog series
Older Chapter Books:
  • Magic Tree House books
  • Poppy Series  By Avi
  • Igraine the Brave by Cornelia Funke
  • Spiderwick
  • Roald Dahl is the wonderful author of Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Enormous Alligator, etc... Great books.
  • Robert Newton Peck has written a fabulous and funny series of books about a boy named Soup, a girl named Trig and another boy named Banjo
  • The Boxcar Children
  • Hank The Cow Dog series
  • American Girl books
